Starting College - Kayla Bates

My first months at college have definitely been a great experience so far. However, being a freshman doesn't come easy. I have put a lot of commitment and work into both school and basketball. College work requires more study time and overall has taught me responsibility rather quickly. The college level for basketball is a big adjustment and I have pushed myself to keep up and learn the pace of the game. Lifting early in the morning and conditioning everyday was difficult but by the end of preseason it was the norm.

The college life in general is much different than high school. It's nice having class in the afternoon and being done the rest of the day. I've really enjoyed having the opportunity to spend more time with my new teammates. The girls have made us Freshman feel like part of the family and I love how all of our different personalities come together to make one awesome group of girls!

Overall, my first month of college has been fantastic. I'm still learning a lot and will continue to do so the rest of the year, thankfully I have a great family at the Mount to help me along the journey.
